What are examples of Optical Media?
Category: Computing Tags: Computer Data Storage
Optical media is a storage media that holds content in digital form on which information is written (encoded) and read (decoded) by using a laser device. An optical media usually is a flat, circular disc that encodes binary data (bits) on a special material, often aluminum, on one of its flat surfaces.
Optical discs are not based on magnetic charges like hard drives are, the discs are less likely to lose their data and have a longer shelf life.
Examples of magnetic optical media are:
- Optical Disc (CD, DVD)
- CD-ROM (CD reader),
- CD-RW (CD writer)
- DVD-ROM (DVD reader)
- DVD-RW (DVD writer)
