Most laptops have wireless networking built-in. But if you need to install a wireless network adapter, check out the below instructions:
- Insert the wireless card into the available PCMCIA slot of the laptop. There is no need to shut down the laptop.
- Turn the computer on. Once the card is inserted, a light may appear on the card to indicate your PCMCIA wireless card is connected. When the computer has fully booted, you will see a message that reads “Found New Hardware” in the bottom-right corner of your screen. Click the little box to launch the “Hardware Update Wizard.” It will prompt you to insert the installation CD that came with the hardware. Alternatively, the necessary software can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s Web site.
- There is no need to restart the computer but it may be advisable to do it. Once the computer has rebooted, the PCMCIA network adaptor is ready to use.
- To select a wireless network you will need a Wireless network name (SSID) and a Wireless security key or password. Right-click the icon located at the bottom right corner of the screen and select View Available Wireless Networks
